One of my roommates from college has a great blog called "Thrilled By the Thought"
Today she posted about a great talk by Julie B. Beck on prioritizing.
http://www.thrilledbythethought.com/?p=1064
These were the main points.
1. Essential Things
These are things we must take care of for our eternal life- prayer, understanding the scriptures, developing a relationship with God, etc.
My essentials include scripture study, prayer, and church attendance.
2. Necessary Things
These are things we need to do to maintain our homes and families- becoming self reliant, earning money, cleaning our homes, cooking meals, etc.
My necessary list includes exercise, cooking, managing money, cleaning, loving children, and loving husband.
3. Nice to Do Things
This is self explanatory. But the important thing to realize about this category is that if we make this category our #1 priority, we will waste time and lose power to be a force for good or to achieve the goals we want to reach.
My "Nice to Do" list could go on and on! It might include: baking, sewing, walking, reading, singing, sleeping, movie watching, blogging, talking.....
I find it helpful to be reminded of what needs to come first in my life. Sometimes it is difficult to do the essential things first, but they bring the greatest rewards and the greatest peace.
