Diet Trends

It seems to be very trendy nowadays to be following some special diet. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, paleo, etc.....

I understand that some people have food sensitivities or allergies that have forced them into certain diets. Some people have strong feelings about animals. Some people insist it is for health reasons.
I love reading about these diets. I think they are each fascinating and I am not opposed to trying different recipes for different diets.
I do not claim to follow any specific diet, however, I do know very well how my body feels and reacts to certain foods. I try and eat well. I try to avoid dairy because of sensitivities (although I have a difficult time staying away from ice cream!).

What are your thoughts on all of the food and diet trends out there right now?

I am like you and know my body sensitivities very well...no dairy (ice cream I will have and suffer the consequences later), I try and not do sugar because I have found I maintain my weight better, I get bloated and puffy when I eat carbs...which totally sucks because they are my favorite.

I like the Paleo recipes and have found that the recipes associated with that diet/lifestyle fit in with a lot of my cooking anyway.

I had a professor who was a molecular biologist and lost 30 pounds by taking a spoonful of oil (I forget which kind) every day between his lunch and dinner. The fat kept him full and prevented snacking.

As it was OIL it wasn't full of saturated or trans fats.

Of course he was exercising everyday as well. He also had a good diet of good food.

The oil was just to keep him happy and not hungry. Also, if your body goes into starvation mode it is hard to loose weight.

It made sense to me. Nothing Fancy. Diet and Exercise along with a little something to keep your buddy happy.
